Golden State Warriors Information
Does California need another National Basketball Association team, you ask? 'Heck yea!' all the sports fans say. The Golden State Warriors are based out of Oakland, CA and are the only franchise to exclude the legal name of their city or state from the name. 'Golden State' actually refers to the California gold rush of 1849, not unlike the National Football League's team, the San Francisco 49ers. At home, Golden State Warriors tickets will get you access to see one exciting action-packed basketball game in the world famous Oakland Coliseum Arena.
The Golden State Warriors' history goes back to the dawn of American basketball, as we know it. The team was originally the Philadelphia Warriors, a charter member of the Basketball Association of America started in 1946. The Basketball Association of America later became the National Basketball Association in 1949. The Warriors are one of only three original BAA/NBA teams still in existence, the others being the Boston Celtics and New York Knickerbockers. In 1959, the team signed a 216-cm 7'1" tall drink of water by the name of Wilt Chamberlain, or nicknamed "Wilt the Stilt." Chamberlain played basketball like nothing anybody had seen up to that time. He was responsible for single-handedly revolutionizing the game of basketball. Need less to say, Chamberlain quickly began shattering NBA scoring records. For example, he scored 100 points against the Knickerbockers in a single-game, a record that may never be broken. In 1962 the team made a drastic move from the East coast to the West and became the San Francisco Warriors. The Warriors won the 1963-1964 Western Division crown, losing the NBA championship series to the Boston Celtics, four games to one. Unfortunately, the only place for this professional basketball team to play was called the Cow Palace in nearby Daly City. Unwilling to share an arena with a bunch of cows, (the arena also hosted rodeos) in 1966, the San Francisco Warriors jumped at the chance to practice and play at the newly constructed Oakland Coliseum Arena. Finally in 1971, the team moved to Oakland and changed its name to the Golden State Warriors. Try as they may, the Golden State Warriors only won one NBA championship. The 1974-75 championship series is considered one of the biggest upsets in the history of the NBA. The Washington Bullets were favored heavily to win and therefore the Oakland Coliseum Arena scheduled other events during the dates of the NBA playoffs. The Warriors miraculously played with all their might and surprised everyone by winning the championship not in Oakland but at the Cow Palace in Daly City.
As one of four National basketball Association teams located in California including the Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings, the Golden State Warriors provide great entertainment for the fans in Oakland, California. Buy your Golden State tickets to join in the fun!
